At Girl On The Moon Dreadlocks, the custom order process is designed to be transparent, collaborative, and stress-free. Here's exactly what to expect, from start to finish.
Step 1: Place Your Order & Secure Your Spot
Custom orders at Girl On The Moon are first come, first served. Only 5–7 custom sets are accepted per month to ensure every set gets the time and care it deserves.
When you place your order and complete payment in full, your spot in the current month's production queue is secured immediately — no waitlist, no deposit system, no back and forth. Full payment upfront means we can get started right away.
Step 2: We Connect One-on-One
After your order is placed, we'll reach out to begin the design conversation. This is where the magic happens. We'll discuss:
- Your colorway — exact shades, ombre placement, root match
- Length & thickness — from wispy and fine to chunky and bold
- End style — Standard ends, or wispy ends for a natural hairlike feel
- Add-ons — Bubble Locs, Braids, Themed Decor, and more
- Any inspiration photos you have in mind
This is your set — we want it to be exactly what you envisioned.
Step 3: Production Begins
Once your design details are confirmed, production begins. Every set is handcrafted from scratch — that means dyeing the wool to your exact colorway, hand-rolling each loc, and crafting any add-ons alongside your set.
Production time: 4–6 weeks from the date of purchase.
This timeline reflects the level of care and craftsmanship that goes into every set. We don't rush — because your locs deserve to be perfect.
Step 4: Progress Updates Along the Way
You won't be left wondering. Throughout production, you'll receive photo updates at key milestones:

- 🪡 Wraps & rolling — watch your locs take shape
- ✨ End styling & add-ons — the finishing touches
Every update is an opportunity to give feedback before the set is finalized.
Step 5: Final Preview Before Shipment
Before your set ships, you'll receive a final photo preview 48 hours before shipment. This is your chance to see the completed set in full — every Dreadlock, every detail — before it leaves our hands.
We want you to be completely in love with your set before it ever reaches your door.
Step 6: Your Set Arrives
Your custom set is carefully packaged and shipped directly to you. Once it arrives, it's ready to install — your one-of-a-kind, handcrafted dreadlock extensions, made just for you. 🌙

Can I make changes after I place my order?
Minor adjustments can be made during the design conversation phase (Step 2). Once production begins, changes may not be possible, so we encourage you to share all your ideas upfront.
What if I'm not happy with my set?
Because every set is custom-made to your specifications, we work closely with you throughout the process to ensure you love the result. The progress updates and final preview are designed to catch any concerns before shipment.
How many sets do you accept per month?
We accept 5–7 custom orders per month. Once spots are filled, orders are moved to the following month's queue.
Do you offer rush orders?
Rush orders are not available at this time. The 4–6 week production window is what allows us to maintain the quality and craftsmanship every set deserves.
